While some people are most bothered by being bored during this crisis, many are “beyond bored”. Many have lost loved ones to the virus, or to something else. Either way, we are not able to grieve in the usual ways but instead are isolated at time when we most crave hugs, connection and community. We re-grieve past losses and continue to grieve more recent ones. All of this amidst the back drop of not wanting to get and/or pass on the virus. As life stands still, it also keeps moving. Some of you are battling autoimmune issues or cancer. Some of you are birthing and grieving the birth experience you had hoped to have, sharing the experience with loved ones; birthing alone. If you have the virus, you birth alone and then are separated from your baby. Some are experiencing a traumatic birth that results in loss or illness for yourself or your baby. Heavy stuff, indeed. This is a community project to honor your grief journey through this pandemic. There are numerous losses associated with this pandemic, not the least of which is our loss of personal safety within our own communities and within our world. There is nowhere to go that is completely safe from this virus; no vaccine. It is literally everywhere. It will take everyone’s efforts to get through it. Because of all of these experiences and more, it feels to me as if grief, trauma, fear, and resilience are the undercurrent of our lives right now. Maybe you feel the same? Given my experience and training I feel a desire and responsibility to hold space and create community for those who seek it. I see you and we can navigate this together if you wish. Keep in mind no one in the whole world has done this before. Now that you know the why. Here is the what:
Create a page, front and back for The Beyond Bored Book. The page should honor your grief, loss, trauma, and/or fear in some way. It can be to honor a specific loved one if you like, as well.
To keep pages consistent please send me an email or private message with your address and I will send you a board book page. There is no cost to participate.
You can create your page in any way you want to and can use whatever materials you wish. I do ask that you not cover the holes and have the holes on the left side of the page (holes will be one the right for the others side). I also ask that any embellishments be securely attached. Some ideas for materials: drawing with markers, pens, ink paint pens. Collage work with photos or magazine pictures, fancy papers, etc. Stamping, painting, die cuts, words, no words. The sky is the limit.
Your page will be added to The Beyond Bored Book. This book will be displayed at Henry’s Heart Art Therapy at Cottonwood Center for the Arts and possibly as part of larger exhibits in the future.
Your page will be part of this permanent project and will not be returned to you.
By participating in this project, you give permission to Susan Jacobsen and Henry’s Heart Art Therapy for public viewing of your work as well as images of the work to be used for promotional purposes. Please indicate whether or not you would like your name listed as a participant in this project or not.
When you have completed your page simply mail it back to me at Susan Jacobsen, 951 Daffodil Street, Fountain, CO 90817 or pre-arrange to drop it off at my studio by calling (719) 322-4630. Please have work to me by July 1st, 2020.
